Bot is the shortened slang form of robot. A bot is an autonomous software program on the internet that can interact with users or websites. The Googlebot is a good example of a bot, which crawls through websites looking for content to put into Google's index. There are many kinds of bots; including evil bots that roam the internet looking for exploitable weaknesses in website security, so that websites can be hijacked, added to Botnets and used for nefarous purposes such as DDoS attacks, among others.
