An International Standard Book Number [ISBN] is the unique identifying number registered by the publisher of the book through the International ISBN Agency, and thereafter placed on that book so it can't be confused with any other book of a similar title. ISBN numbers were 10 digits long up until 2006, since 2006 they have been 13 digits long.
